A+ Certification

The CompTIA A+ course is your first breakthrough for your career in the IT world. This entry-level course will lay the groundwork for what you need to be successful, and for what employers expect for their entry level IT positions. You will obtain a full understanding on how to install, maintain, configure, troubleshoot, and operate personal computers. Develop customer service & communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical employees.

Here are two exams required to obtain the certification, CompTIA A+ (Core 1) and CompTIA A+ (Core 2), which require a passing score of 675 (on a scale of 100-900) and 700 (on a scale of 100-900) respectively. The exams are each 90 minutes long. Core 1 covers mobile devices, networking technology, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing and network troubleshooting. Core 2 covers installing and configuring operating systems, expanded security, software troubleshooting and operational procedures. The A+ certification is valid for three years after you sit for the examination and can be renewed every three years.

Prerequisites & Work Experience

No prerequisites are needed for this course and no work experience requirements for this exam. However, CompTIA recommends 9 to 12 months hands-on experience in the lab or field.

Beyond A+

A+ is often the foundation course at the beginning of a new technology career. Many find that Network+ is a helpful next step after A+, allowing for a deeper understanding of the way computers communicate with one another and
offering more opportunities for higher pay.
